I recently grooved my Volvo B230 NA head with four grooves per chamber.

I recently grooved my Volvo B230 NA head with four grooves per chamber. I also had the head resurfaced which brought my CR up to 10.5 to 1. I have an abundance of power and added torque. I have a five speed manual trans. which I no longer have to down shift going up hills. I also have my timing set at 28 degrees  BTD at idle and do not have any detonation problems. My mileage has gone from 24mpg city driving to 30mpg. I have yet to test highway mileage. Here are some photos of my grooves.

Hey, where'd you go? Tell us more, please! You did a beautiful job (!), and the city mileage is great, how did the highway come out? Have you played with the timing? More info on a great start, please!

I have a 91' 240 that I'd really like to try this same design on... Mine is an automatic( not my choice!) I will be curious to hear how this has effected your highway mileage and general driving characteristics. Hard for me to mess around with Volvos TOO much because they're pretty good to begin with! But this is certainly and interesting idea. Please keep us apprised of your results!

My complements to you on a job well done, I especially like the way you opened the end of the groove in the chamber cavity, very unique. In addition the placement of the groove near the plug is brilliant; this allows initial flame kernel development before groove flow impacts further burn growth.
