Somender,

To let you know - John John (JJ) took Western Canadian Championship on 85 Yamaha with Somender's 5 groove set-up.  Shaving head 10 thou out-performed 3 groove.  Jet sizing way down - performance way up.  4 stroke Honda was hole shotting 90% of every race.    Thank you very much for helping us out.  Happy New Year & best wishes to you and yours.  kp / whitecourt

Grooving a D16Y8 Honda head?

I have a motor from a 96-2000 Civic EX, a 1.6L D16Y8. It has this valve pattern:

Would it be as advantageous for me to groove my head as it is for some of these simpler heads? Also, what are the recommended dimensions for the grooves? I can't seem to find anything anywhere about acceptable shapes and lengths. I would much rather put one of my spare heads in a mill and go at it with an end mill or countersink bit than file it. Would a square groove from an end mill be acceptable? Worse or better than a groove cut with a file or countersink bit?

I am getting only about 41-42MPG highway right now with the stock transmission (low-geared EX/Si 5-speed), a forced AFR average of 15.7, and careful driving. I would really like to bump it up a bit.

Thanks!
