To let you know - John John (JJ) took
Western Canadian Championship on 85 Yamaha with Somender's 5 groove
set-up. Shaving head 10 thou out-performed 3 groove. Jet sizing way
down - performance way up. 4 stroke Honda was hole shotting 90% of
every race. Thank you very much for helping us out. Happy New Year
& best wishes to you and yours. kp / whitecourt
Hi everyone, I've been learning a lot about Mr. Singh's "Grooves" and would like to try it out on a Nissan VH45DE engine. The specs are: 10.2:1 CR, flat top pistons and pentroof chamber. The engine will be turbocharged with approx. 10 psi of boost. I'm hoping that the grooves will give me a slight reduction in Compression Ratio and also help in controlling detonation under boost.
Here's a quick sketch I did of possible groove locations on the VH45. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

SL i was hoping some one would answer this one ?
All you need to do is, 2 long narrow channels as indicated by you ! Simple straight forward ! Leave the other 4 for the rest ? i have done many 4 Valves heads with just 2 opposing narrow deep channels with mind blowing results ! Because the squish area is small in a pent roof setup ! Having more than one really has no great effects. Don't worrry about the sharp edges starting to glow ? Just sand them down a V bit !
You dont need to shave the head as the mild Turbo will do the job ! The Toyota head with 2 channels is a text book example ! The channels could have been narrower ?
i have no more tricks up my sleeve ! If any one can better them let us all know about it !
Happy Grooving ! sing !!!

Thanks for the reply. So you think that just 2 grooves per cylinder are needed. Do you think that the extra grooves would be detrimental? The reason I ask is because of my desire to lower the compression slightly for the turbo application. Also, I will be running water injection on this engine so pre-ignition should not be a problem.

Hello SL, Compression Alone WithOut Turbulence Is Useless ! Time and again people have seen grooving bringing down Mr Deto & Miss Ping ! As i see it ~ You may one day repent, why you ever tried lowering your compression ratio with 4 additional channels ? Be satisfied with " 2 Large Ones ", they will perform their job ! You can play around with the boost if you need to balance the act !
Just " Stuffing " the Cylinders with " Boost " will get you no where ~ But hitting Mr Deto & Miss Ping ~ Head On ! Go step by step ! Get the right head gasket with atleast 1.5 mm between Piston & Head at peak revs. Grooves don't perform well with tighter Quench tolerances like 0.5 mm or below !
As i said ~ I have no more Tricks up my sleeves ~ Only Facts !
Happy Grooving ! sing !!!
